Answers to the questions we receive most often about eTOMMENS DC power supplies, customization and support.
A programmable DC power supply provides adjustable, regulated DC voltage and current, controlled from the front panel or a remote interface such as RS232, USB or LAN. It is used for device testing, battery charging and precision powering, and it can be driven by a test program for repeatable, unattended operation.
Our range starts at compact bench supplies and extends to high-power models above 6000W, across linear, switching, multi-channel, auto-range and rack-mounted platforms. Each series page lists the full model table with voltage, current and power, so you can match the supply to your load.
RS232, RS485, USB (USBTMC), LAN and analog control are available across our series, with SCPI command sets and a Modbus option. The matching protocol documents are listed in the Technical Resources.
Linear supplies deliver the lowest ripple and noise, which suits sensitive measurements. Switching supplies are more compact and more efficient per watt, which suits general bench and system use. Auto-range models extend the usable voltage and current envelope from a single unit.
Yes, for models that support it — series connection raises the available voltage and parallel connection raises the available current. Tell us your target output and we will confirm the correct configuration and wiring for the models you plan to order.
Yes. We support OEM, ODM and private-label customization for distributors, integrators and equipment builders — including output range, interface set, firmware behaviour, enclosure and branding. Contact us with your specifications.
MOQ and lead time depend on the model and quantity — request a quote and our sales team will confirm both for your specific configuration. Sample orders are welcome for evaluation.
Send the output voltage and current, total power, required interfaces, the application and your target quantity through the contact form or by email. With those details we can recommend a model on the first reply.
Concise technical answers on DC power supply basics, CV/CC operation, linear versus switching design and remote-control interfaces — drawn from our product documentation and engineering practice.
A DC power supply converts AC mains power into regulated direct current at a set voltage and current. It is used to power, charge and test electronic devices. The eTOMMENS range runs from mini bench units to high-power rack systems.
In constant-voltage (CV) mode the output holds the set voltage while current follows the load; in constant-current (CC) mode it holds the set current while voltage follows the load. When the load reaches the current limit the supply crosses over automatically — R-Series and RP-2U models switch CV/CC automatically.
Choose a maximum output voltage above your highest working voltage and a maximum current above the load's peak draw, keeping margin on both. Since power equals voltage times current, a 300 W load at 30 V needs at least 10 A. Filter models by voltage or power band in the product center, or send us the load data to confirm.
Linear supplies regulate with the pass element in its linear region: conversion efficiency is typically 35–60% and the power-frequency transformer makes them larger and heavier, but output ripple and noise are low, suiting sensitive measurements. Switching supplies regulate by PWM at 20–200 kHz: efficiency is typically 80–90% in a smaller, lighter chassis, with higher ripple and EMI to manage. Linear designs step down only, while switching topologies can step up or down.
A rack-mount DC power supply is built for 19-inch rack or cabinet installation instead of bench-top use. The eTOMMENS rack-mounted series includes digital-tube programmable, dual-display programmable regulated and touch-screen programmable models, plus 2U and 3U high-power chassis, and high-precision high-voltage models such as the RP-2U High Voltage Series.
Through rear-panel interfaces — RS232, RS485, USB or LAN on equipped models — driven by SCPI command sets or the Modbus protocol. The SCPI and Modbus command lists, LAN module appendix and programming manual are published in the Technical Resources, and PowerDC utility software is provided for Modbus control.
RS232 is a point-to-point serial interface that connects one power supply to a PC COM port or USB adapter. It is the simplest wired remote-control option and is available on most eTOMMENS bench and programmable series.
RS485 is a differential serial bus that links multiple devices on one wire pair over longer distances than RS232, with each device set to its own address. It suits multi-unit test lines and system integration, and is offered across the eTOMMENS programmable range.
Modbus is a register-based industrial communication protocol: Modbus-RTU runs over RS485 serial links and Modbus-TCP over Ethernet, letting a PLC or host computer read and write device registers. Selected eTOMMENS models support Modbus, with the register command list and PowerDC utility in the Technical Resources.
SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) is a text-based command language for test instruments, layered on IEEE 488.2. Test programs written in SCPI can control different instrument brands with minimal changes; the SCPI command lists for the eTOMMENS series are available in the Technical Resources.
Work through seven checks — output power, output voltage, output current, programmable CV/CC operation, communication interface, form factor and application; see the seven-step selection guide on our products page. Every category page carries filters for power band, voltage band, interface and channel count, and our engineers confirm the final configuration with you before ordering.
Start with three boundaries: maximum output voltage (slightly above the working voltage of the device under test), maximum current (above the load peak) and total power (voltage × current, with headroom). A switching supply suits general laboratory work, a linear supply suits low-ripple sensitive measurement, and a programmable model with RS232, USB or LAN suits remote control. Filter by power and voltage in the product range, or send your load parameters to our engineers for a selection recommendation.
For high power applications, start from the total power tier: the product range is grouped into 300–900 W, 1000–1500 W, 1500–3000 W and 4000–6000 W. Then confirm the output voltage range and the cabinet mounting format (2U or 3U); for high voltage applications see the RP-2U high voltage series. Choose RS485 or LAN to match your system, and request the datasheet and certification documents for the series you select (CE and FCC SDoC apply by series).
Selected series hold CE (LVD / EMC) and FCC SDoC approvals; the certificates and the models they cover are published on the About Us page and as files in the Technical Resources. Not every series is covered yet — ask us which approvals apply to the model you need, and we will send the current valid copies for your compliance file.
We provide a product warranty and responsive technical support, including commissioning help, firmware and protocol documents, and calibration guidance. Warranty terms depend on the model and application — contact our team for the exact terms for your order.
The Technical Resources lists catalogs, user manuals, communication protocol documents, drivers and software, available for direct download. If you need a document you cannot find there, contact us and we will send the revision matching your unit's firmware.
Calibration arrangements depend on the model and order. Please contact our team with your requirements and we will confirm what calibration documentation can be provided with your unit.
